Fall, a season filled with horror movies, pumpkin spice lattes, and “Gilmore Girls” (2000-2007), is approaching. With fall kicking off, there are a few fun ways to spend your free time this autumn. I am here to break down some activities for this cozy fall time, and the spooky season.
Firstly, you can indulge in seasonal food and drinks that are available during this season. You can always check out local cafes, like the Bakeshop in Northern Arlington. They have a diverse assortment of pastries and sweets representative of fall flavors. They carry items like pumpkin pie, pumpkin cupcakes and more. They also have plenty of vegan options for those that are vegan. You can also check out chains like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts for festive food and beverages. Starbucks has drinks such as pumpkin cream cold brews, pumpkin spice lattes and more. They also have pastries, like pumpkin cream cheese muffins and baked apple croissants. At Dunkin Donuts, they carry Halloween-themed donuts, as well as pumpkin-flavored drinks.
Shifting the focus to activities you can do at home, I recommend enjoying a show like “Gilmore Girls” (2000-2007), to set the fall mood. You could also watch horror movies like “Halloween” (1978) or movies from the Scream Franchise. For a more mild scare, films by Tim Burton and Laika studios offer a less intense horror experience.
Aside from films and shows, there are many recipes to bake during this season, which you can find in cookbooks, food blogs, and social media platforms like Pinterest or TikTok. Lastly, pumpkin carving is one of the most popular options. You can do this with friends or family and find various designs to match the spooky autumn season.
Moving on from the comfort of at-home activities, there are many outdoor attractions and places to visit. Firstly, you can likely find a fall festival in many places around the country. They typically include pumpkin patches, hayrides, games, food, drinks, live music, etc. Not only are there Fall festivals, but there are also Halloween attractions. Many amusement parks offer a Halloween-themed experience during the time from September to October. They offer a large selection of rides and haunted houses with horror-filled experiences and often have actors dressed in costumes to give a scare or two to visitors. In the Arlington area, you can down to Centerville and experience Cox Farm. The farm offers many different forms of entertainment, including a Fall Festival open from Thursday to Monday until Nov. 7. They also have the Fields of Fears, featuring horror-themed attractions such as the Dark Side Hayride, Cornightmare, the Firegrounds, and the Forest: Back 40. These are open every Friday and Saturday until Nov. 4, 2023. Cox Farm has a Fall Festival Market that is open daily until Nov. 7, 2023. The Fall Festival Market offers a variety of seasonal drinks, pastries, etc. Another activity that is available in most areas is visiting apple orchards to pick some apples and partake in fall festivities.
Whether or not you enjoy the spooky side of autumn or the cozy side, there are many ways to keep busy. Make the most of your time by baking pumpkin and apple recipes, carving pumpkins, or immersing in fall and Halloween attractions. So, as you enjoy this season, try out some of these activities to make the most of this time.
