With the release of the seventh Fast and Furious film on April 3, the movie has received a lot of popularity. Earning a percentage of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and breaking records with a $143.6 million debut, the movie is moving up fast in rank.

Furious 7 is the first movie in its collection to earn more than $100 million dollars in its first weekend. The movie is ranked number nine for biggest movie opening weekend and is also the first film to have a $100 million-plus debut in the month of April.

Compared to the first Fast and Furious movie, Fast and Furious 7 earned more money in the first three days of its premiere than the entire Fast and Furious domestic run. With each new movie release, more money is earned. That is a fact most movie franchises cannot brag about.

Along with the movie’s previous popularity, a major contributor to the “hype” of the most recent film is actor Paul Walker, who passed away on November 30, 2013 in a car crash. Ever since the accident, many Fast and Furious fans have felt unable to recover. Despite Walker’s death about a year and a half ago, this movie features appearances by Walker (playing himself) and also Walker’s brother and body double Cody.

The movie concludes with a heartwarming, tear-jerking scene with the depart of characters as all the final parts come together, including a tribute montage of scenes from the series. “There’s so much symbolism and irony in the movie that relates to his death,” says junior Elijah Baco.

The song See You Again by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth is played during the farewell sequence. The song was written specifically for the film. Although Walker is gone, he leaves a legacy with the Fast and Furious films that will have a lasting effect.
