School name change lawsuit struck down
On December 19, Arlington County Circuit Court Chief Judge William Newman struck down the lawsuit against the School Board. The suit, filed by three current students, alleged that the Board had failed to involve the community and disregarded their own policies when deciding to change the name of the school. Judge Newman cited the lack of any serious errors on the part of the School Board, and said that the students did not have the ability to challenge the decision. Despite having lost their primary legal chance to prevent the name change, some members of the community are still hoping to keep the name of the school the same. The School Board discussed the name recommendations at a meeting the next day, December 20, and according to an official meeting agenda, will act on the proposed name on January 10.
