Two popular snacks for many high school students are cookies and ice cream. From chocolate chip to peanut butter to snickerdoodle, cookies are highly appreciated by many teenagers. The cookie ice cream sandwich combines these two well-liked desserts to make a new, unique food that many people find delightful. However, only a few places can recreate this treat nearly as well as Captain Cookie, Jubilee and Insomnia Cookies.
Unlike the other two restaurants, Jubilee specializes in ice cream. If you’re looking for original flavors and a very friendly staff, Jubilee is the restaurant for you. However, Jubilee only serves two different types of cookies (chocolate chip and ginger molasses), which is a lot less than the wide variety offered at Captain Cookie and Insomnia Cookies. Regardless, Jubilee does have the advantage of being the most local of all three places. This ice cream place is also surprisingly the only one out of these three that has seasonal flavors this fall: Apple Butter Oatmeal Cookie, Carrot Cake and Lemon Bar. Overall, Jubilee is an amazing ice cream place, but maybe not the best if you’re craving a cookie sandwich.
Captain Cookie is a highly-rated cookie and ice cream chain based in Washington, D.C. Captain Cookie started as a food truck and now has many restaurant locations around the district, and recently, a new one opened in Clarendon. This restaurant serves a phenomenal classic chocolate chip cookie and vanilla ice cream sandwich, but cannot compare to the creative flavors of Jubilee or Insomnia Cookies. That being said, Captain Cookie does have the exciting factor of the “Cookie of the Week,” which are often unusual flavors such as the Pecan Sandie. So, for frequent customers, Captain Cookie may be the place for you.
Even though it is the farthest from the school district, Insomnia Cookies is worth the drive. Located in Georgetown, Insomnia Cookies has the most variations of cookies and ice cream out of these three restaurants. With 12 different standard cookies (including four vegan options) and eight different ice cream flavors, Insomnia has a lot to choose from. Insomnia Cookies also delivers from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m., which is appealing for many students who cannot drive. If you are looking for a nighttime snack or you need a new cookie place, nothing can compare to the warm, fresh-baked flavor of Insomnia Cookies.
Overall, these ice cream and cookie places specialize in different areas. For instance, Jubilee has the best, most creative ice cream flavors, but the cookie is no match for either of the other two restaurants. In contrast, Captain Cookie has very good basic flavors, but needs more elaborate flavor combinations. The best sandwich, however, is clear. Insomnia Cookies’ sandwich was well-rounded, the cookies were freshly baked, and the ice cream was just sweet enough. If you are looking for an afternoon snack, Insomnia Cookies will not disappoint.
