Go race for Ellie tomorrow
Each year, English teacher Katrina Reed’s husband, Joe Reed plans a 5K to help raise funds for Ellie McGinn, a student in his class, who suffers from leukodystrophy, an exceptionally rare and sadly terminal mitochondrial disease. He also plans an auction that took place last Friday, April 15th. Because of the disorder’s rarity, there is very little research in existence, and in order for any type of research to continue, Ellie’s parents have the daunting task of raising two million dollars in the next several years. Mr. Reed hopes to offset the cost (even in a minimal way).
The 5K Race is tomorrow, Saturday, April 23rd at 8:30 a.m. through the Fairlington neighborhood in South Arlington. Race fees are $35 for adults, $20 for kids ages 6-16, and walk-up registration the morning of the event will be available. There is also a one mile run/walk if that better suits your interests. Kids, pets, and significant others and all friends are welcome. It’s a great way for the whole family to spend a Saturday morning!
